Since 2016, Ayurveda Day has been observed on the day of Dhanwantri Jayanti. The day is celebrated to raise awareness of the value of Ayurvedic medicine. This year, Dhanteras falls on November 2, hence Ayur Vedas Day 2021 is observed today.
Furthermore, National Ayurveda Day is marked to highlight the benefits of Ayurveda and its distinct treatment approaches. The central government wishes to lessen the disease load by exploiting the potential of Ayurveda.
Dhanteras is considered to ensure the well-being of one's family or relatives. Lord Dhanvantari is recognized as the Healer of All Ails. According to Hindu legend, Lord Dhanvantari, a godly physician, appeared before the Devas and Asuras during Samudra Manthan. He possessed Amrita, or the nectar of immortality, as well as the Ayurvedic scripture.
Both the Devas and the Asuras desired the nectar to become eternal, which resulted in a battle between the two mythical factions. Garuda, typically represented as a big eagle-like bird or a half-human, half-bird monster, was the one who kept the nectar safe from the Asuras.
IMPORTANCE OF AYURVEDA
Since prehistoric days, Ayurveda has been practiced in India. It includes several immunity principles, the most prominent of which are Bala (the idea of strength), Vyadhi Kshamathwa (the notion of resistance to sickness development), and Ojas (the idea of supreme resilience). Given the centrality of a healthy immune system, many people have turned to Ayurveda to help them battle the new coronavirus.
As per Ayurveda, the following are some ways in which you can boost your immunity:
- AYURVEDIC CONCOCTIONS
Every Indian has probably heard the word kadha at some point in their life. Kadha is an Ayurvedic concoction produced by combining several herbs and spices cooked in water for more than 10 minutes to extract all of the medicinal properties of these herbs. During the cold and dry seasons, kadha is a classic home remedy that might help increase immunity.
Tulsi (Basil), Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kali Mirch (Black pepper), Shunthi (Dry Ginger), and Munakka (Raisin) can be combined with water to make this herbal mixture. If desired, you can add jaggery or natural honey to this preparation. You can also mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder into 150 mL of boiling milk. These mixtures should be consumed just once each day.
- MEDITATION AND YOGA
Yoga, according to Ayurveda, is essential for relieving bodily stress and calming the mind. Daily meditation can assist in reducing both physical and emotional stress. Begin by sitting in a quiet spot and meditating for at least 10 minutes each day.
To maintain your neural and endocrine systems, practice yoga asanas such as savasana, sukhasana, and siddhasana for 20 minutes twice a day, two to three times a week. You should also do pranayama daily to relax your mind.
- BASIC AYURVEDIC PROCEDURES
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, numerous ayurvedic therapies are thought to strengthen your immunity against respiratory disorders such as COVID-19. You can try Pratimarsh Nasya, which involves applying sesame oil, coconut oil, or ghee to both nostrils in the dawn and dusk.
Another method is oil pulling therapy, which involves putting one tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil in your mouth and swishing it around for 2 to 3 minutes before spitting it out. After that, rinse your mouth with warm water and repeat this therapy once or twice a day.
- AYURVEDIC HERBS
Many therapeutic herbs have been listed in Ayurveda and are proven to enhance immunity. These are some of the herbs:
KALMEGH
Kalmegh is a bitter-tasting plant leaf with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. This plant has been shown to aid in treating colds, flu, and other upper respiratory tract diseases.
GUDUCHI GILOY
Guduchi Giloy is anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory. Giloy is also thought to be a natural fever suppressor and a stress and anxiety reducer.
CHIRATA
Chirata is a typical Ayurvedic plant with significant anti-asthmatic and expectorant qualities. Chirata is beneficial in relieving chest congestion.
I hope you realize the importance of this auspicious day. So, why not complete this blog with the most brilliantly charmed mantra,
“Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Dhanvantraye
Amrita Kalasha Hastaya, Sarva Maya Vinashanaya
Trailoka Nathaya, Shri Mahavishnave Namah”
Blessed Dhanteras, and warm wishes for excellent health on National Ayurveda Day to you and your whole family!
